Job Description: Provide technical assistance to landowners and operators in the county as it relates to the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and other USDA programs. Will work in office and in the field on the promotion, documentation, contracting, installation and maintenance of conservation practices. They will assist office staff in the field with surveys and layout of conservation practices and performs status reviews and follow up with landowners. They will produce field notes and prepare data sheets and other documents as needed. They will also assist with water sampling and watershed evaluation.
The successful candidate: Will assist with engineering surveys, designs, seeding plans and practice checkout for the various conservation practices of the CRP. These practices include grassed waterways, shallow water areas for wildlife, windbreaks, contour buffer strips, grass filter strips, riparian forest buffers and others. Candidate must possess excellent communication skills in order to provide one-on-one assistance to landowners to ensure that procedures are followed to receive cost-share funds and that construction meets specified standards.
Required Education: Must be enrolled in college or recent graduate majoring in a field of study related to agriculture, conservation, engineering or GIS.
Job Qualifications and Experience: Applicant should be a detail oriented individual with the ability to work independently and prioritize work schedule. Applicant needs good communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Job will require walking through rough terrain and carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment. Knowledge of Arc GIS software, engineering equipment and agriculture practices beneficial. Need to possess a valid driver’s license. Successful candidate will need to undergo a federal background investigation and fingerprint check.
