ISU Class Tour of Conservation Practices

Students from the Forest Landscapes, Wildlife, and Silviculture class at Iowa State University visited Allamakee County on October 10 to view conservation practices. The class instructors are Dr. Rick Hall and Dr. Dick Schultz.  Sara Berges, the District Project Coordinator, and Dave Asche, District Forester, led the tour.  Some of the practices that were showcased include timber stand improvement, tree plantings, contour farming, streambank stabilization, a wetland complex, and a water and sediment control basin.  The students and presenters discussed the goals associated with the different practices, cost-share sources, and maintenance issues.  Some of the practices were in or near the Waukon City Park, while the rest were on private properties.
