The Upper Iowa River Watershed Management Authority (UIR – WMA) has selected four sub-watersheds to receive conservation practice funding through the Iowa Watershed Approach (IWA) and funding from U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Those sub-watersheds include Coon Creek (Allamakee and Winneshiek), Canoe Creek (Winneshiek), North Canoe Creek (Winneshiek), and Ten Mile Creek (Winneshiek).
Program funds will provide 75% cost-share to target practices that retain water in the landscape during heavy rain events to help reduce flood potential. Those practices include:
- Farm Ponds
- Water and Sediment Control Basins
- Grade Stabilization Structures
- Wetland Creation
- Constructed Wetlands
- Wetland Enhancement
Landowners in one of these watersheds can fill out an application here. More information can be found on the Winneshiek SWCD website.
