The Allamakee SWCD’s Conservation Education Day was held May 8, 2014 in the Waukon City Park with seven 6th grade classes attending. We hope the students had a lot of fun learning about different aspects of conservation through hands-on activities. We would like to thank all of the presenters, teachers, and students for making the day enjoyable while also being educational. The stations were Archeology presented by Effigy Mounds staff, Tree Planting presented by LeRoy Barnhart, Oil Spills presented by Sue Pederson from Allamakee ISU Extension, Soil Conservation presented by NRCS staff, Fur Bearers presented by Bill Collins of the Iowa DNR, Fish ID presented by Bill Kalishek of the Iowa DNR, Native Animals presented by Ross Geerdes of Allamakee County Conservation, and Watersheds presented by Sara Berges of the Allamakee SWCD and Bob Joachim of NRCS. We would also like to thank the park staff for their help. At the end of the day, each student received a tree to take home and plant from the Allamakee SWCD.
