Scholarship Program

The Allamakee SWCD works with Dollars for Scholars to provide scholarships to high school seniors to be used for their first year of education on the college level.  To be eligible for these scholarships, the applicants must be pursuing a program of study in agriculture or the natural resources.  The money for the scholarships comes from the generous donations of the Allamakee SWCD Conservation Club.

Conservation Education Day

The Allamakee SWCD has sponsored the Annual 6th Grade Conservation Education Day for over 30 years.  The students spend the day in the Waukon City Park rotating between several learning stations.  These stations cover topics including water quality, native animals, fur bearers, fish species identification, archaeology, soils, and tree planting.  The children have the opportunity to have some hands-on experience with conservation.

District Fair Booth

If you are at the Allamakee County Fair, make sure to stop by our fair booth to talk to us about conservation in Allamakee County.  We will be around to answer questions and provide information on the conservation practices, watershed projects, and cost-share practices that might be of interest to you.

Newsletter

Early each year, the Allamakee SWCD send out a newsletter that provides information on conservation practices, cost-share options, and lists the individuals and businesses that contributed to the Conservation Club during the previous year.

Annual Report

In November of each year, the District submits an annual report to the Waukon Standard.  This is a multiple-page insert in the paper that highlights conservation activities in the county in the past year as well as gives information on conservation practices, cost-share options, and watershed projects.  It also gives an account of district financial activities and all of the conservation activities for the previous fiscal year.
