If you are considering planting oats next year, we suggest that you read the variety trials from Iowa and the surrounding states.  Also, if you hope to market to Grain Millers (or other market), please make sure you use one of their preferred varieties.  More information from Grain Millers can be found here.

Yield and test weight are two of the test categories to look at.  Oat millers typically require a test weight of 38 lb/bu before dockage is applied.  Farmers can use a grain vacuum to further clean oats and increase test weight.
